Mac

The process for configuring a connection on a Mac has three distinct stages, some of which may already have been set on your computer

  1. Deducing Your Operating System
  2. Configuring TCP/IP
  3. Configuring PPP

Instructions for each of these processes follow below

  1. Deducing Your Operating System

    • The current Apple Mac Operating System is System 8.2.
    • TCP/IP is also a built-in function of System 7.5.2 and later.

Users of older systems than 7.5.2 must obtain Mac TCP from either our CD or from a magazine, book or website. Mac PPP is available from similar places. Newer machines (using System 7.5.2 or later) will find that Mac TCP is now called TCP/IP and should note that they need Free PPP instead of Mac PPP.

    • It is important that you follow the correct section on installing and configuring your TCP.

This is because there are fundamental difference between System 7.5.2 and Earier Versions of System 7. You must be running System 7 as a very minimum and preferably System 7.5.2 or above.

    • As a consequence the next section is split into two columns, one for newer systems (7.5.2 or above) and one for older systems.
    • Configuring PPP is the same for all Mac Operating Systems

  2. Configuring TCP/IP

    System 7.5.2 and AboveEarlier Systems
The main thing about the newer versions of Mac System 7 is that it allows you to change from one type of network to another simply. This probably won't affect the Internet connection but if you are on a Network you should contact you Network Supervisor before continuing.
